of all of them, i would recommend the ps3. it’s twice as expensive as the xbox or wii, but like everyone says, you get what you pay for. i have played all of the most recent game consoles and have come to one conclusion, you should only buy an xbox or wii if you can’t afford a ps3. the wii may have been the first motion game, but it was also the first to cause serious injuries and property damage and was responsible for breaking hundreds of tvs, i prefer a game that only breaks your tv if you intentionally throw it through your tv, and the xbox may have the most exclusive games, but they have little or no real plot and all of them are basically the same, all ps3 games are unique, especially the new playstation move games.

Everything you said is true: the xbox 360 has a huge game library but the PS3 has some good games coming around the corner and right now there is a huge gap between the games available and the games that the PS3 can run. It really comes down to a few things: games and graphics. If you are really into graphics and visuals look at the PS3 because, as you said, it has more power and has room for improvement. If not, look at what games you want to play. You said you had a PS2 so if there is a series of games you plaid on the PS2 that is moving to the PS3, I suggest the PS3 because you can continue the saga. However, if thats not the case then are there games on the Xbox 360 you really want to play? What I would do is head over to gamespot.com and look at both their xbox 360 and ps3 sections. Look at their game selections for both consoles looking at the games your interested in and their highest rated games. Then, make sure you look at games that are announced and coming soon. Just a heads up, it's rumored that there is going to be an update to the Xbox 360 so I would wait a little while before buying. Also, if you plan on playing any PS2 games on your PS3 remember that the cheaper 40gb model will not play PS2 games, only the more expensive 80gb model does that. And if you are interested in the 80gb there is something else to consider, towards the second quarter of this year Sony will be releasing Metal Gear Solid 4 and the new PS3 controllers that support rumble. This new controller and Metal Gear Solid 4 will be bundled with the 80gb PS3 for the same price of $499. Source In conclusion, I would decide what console you want based on my suggestions and then wait for their respective updates. Thanks for the blog.

I’m looking to buy a console to replace my chunky PS2 and I must admit I’m finding it difficult to chose between the 360 and ps3!

I don’t (at the moment) rate the ability to store documents/music or use the net option on a system high on my list of priorities.

The general feeling I’ve got is that the 360 has a wide range of games that really use the system but that the PS3 has a huge amount of room for improvement. I’ve played on the 360 and it is really smooth and has got me itching to upgrade (soon I’ll have to pay someone to take it off my hands!) but the more reviews I read the more I feel like flipping a coin|!!

Can you help?

Sean, Obviously it's hard to tell when, or if, there will be an update to any piece of technology. In my opinion, The wii may get an update by next Christmas giving the consumer a color choice, and with the PS3 you may see a hard drive upgrade, a white color option or a new slim design similar to the slim PS2. The xbox 360 probably will not see a hardware feature upgrade but Microsoft may start using compononets that run cooler to help with the overheating issue. I base my predictions on rumors I've read and on the fact that the original xbox and gamecube never had a major update to their hardware, and the PS2 was updated only once with a new slim model offering simply a new look and built in ethernet port towards the end of it's life span. To answer your question though, it's safe to say nothing extraordinary is around the corner and any new update will be minor so right now is as good of a time as any to buy your new console. To answer your second question, the xbox 360 is able to interface with your desktop library. You are able to stream music, pictures, and videos from your machine to your 360. To set that up you can check out a great step by step article from Windows Vista Magazine. The 360 is not able to play all formats but you can learn more about that thanks to Microsoft. Wonderful breakdown of each system. My wife and I are trying to decide which system is best for our 10 and 8 year old kids. Do you think now is a good time to buy or are these 3 manufacturer’s waiting for Christmas 2008 to come out with new features?

Also, I am attracted by the 360′s ability to interface with our desktop – running Vista Home Premium. I understood that the 360 could play music or movies from a desktop library. Is this true?

If I could have only one I would have to go with an Xbox 360. The 360 has a much larger game library than the wii thats great for everyone, online play that is top notch, and multimedia features that allow you to stream movies, music, and photos to your tv.
